Our Specialty Seating Systems is recognized as a leading designer, developer, and manufacturer of a broad spectrum of aerospace specialty seating products. Our state-of-the-art, dynamically certified cockpit and cabin crew seats, passenger seats, ejection seats, and 30g crashworthy helicopter seats are showcased on commercial, regional, business, and military aircraft for most major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Position Purpose/Objective:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the support of VIP, Commercial and Military Specialty Seating products for the Colorado Springs, Colorado and Peshtigo, Wisconsin facilities. This individual will have oversight of the Engineering Project Management organization and is physically located at the Colorado Springs, Colorado manufacturing site. The Engineering Manager will reports directly to the Shared Services Seating Engineering Manager located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.This Manager is a motivated, self-starter who provides daily leadership, guidance, and direction to the assigned Engineering Team members and the India Design Team in support of projects. This person will interface directly with internal and external customers in support of development and sustaining project activities. Additionally, this person strongly supports the technical aspects and creation of estimates to support new business capture activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages a staff of Project Managers for a range of seating products and ensures proper resource allocation across projects.

  • Provides expert resolution of issues and monitors integration of work

  • Drives continuous improvement for project management processes and uses ACE tools to improve the department and streamline department procedures

  • Champions and ensures the use of UTC Aerospace Systems Product Introduction (UPI) tools in new product development

  • Reviews project plans to ensure customer, regulatory, assembly, and manufacturing requirements are met

  • Personally participates in solving particularly difficult project problems

  • Handles personnel actions including recruitment, performance reviews, salary recommendations, employee relations and coordination of training and development

  • Responsible for developing talent and teams’ expertise

  • Supports development and management of department budgets

  • Supports technical and cost estimation activities related to new business capture

  • Assists with Project Management activities related to new product introduction

  • Adheres to all UTC Aerospace Systems rules and codes of conduct

  • Performs other duties as required

Qualification:

  • At least 6 years working in an engineering position requiring a high level of technical aptitude.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical managerial role (including direct / indirect supervision of a team)

Preferred :

  • Management experience in the aerospace industry

  • Lean/Six Sigma experience

  • Knowledge of FAA and other airworthiness regulatory requirements

  • Direct experience managing multiple projects of various size and complexity

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and self-sufficient ability to lead teams, including coaching and mentoring

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong ability to drive process rigor and structure

  • Strong leadership and team building abilities

  • BA/BS Engineering degree w/ 5+ years’ experience in related engineering field OR

  • MA/MS Engineering degree w/3+ years’ experience in related engineering field
